Sat Nam, thanks for tuning in to see what you can do for your spirit this week. One of the many things about Kundalini Yoga that helps me to ‘keep up’ is the variety. Here’s a great way to totally switch up your meditation practice…take it outside…with a walk. What a fun way to get out and enjoy the sunshine (or the summertime rain!), be active, increase your own vitality, and take a moment to connect to that divine energy within. It’s easy and fun, share it with a friend!
Meditation of the Week: Walking Meditation
Posture: Walking
Mudra and Mantra: Refer to ‘Kirtan Kriya’ a couple of posts ago if this doesn’t clearly explain it…there is a video on that post.
Whilst walking, Touch the thumb and index finger together as you chant SA (infinity)
Touch the thumb and middle finger together as you chant TA (life)
Touch the thumb and ring finger together as you chant NA (death)
Touch the thumb and pinkie together as you chant MA (birth)
This is the panj shabad, the five primal sounds. This is the cycle of creation.
The effects of each mudra are: 1st finger- Gyan mudra is for knowledge
2nd finger- Shuni Mudra is for patience (hmm…interesting, yes?)
3rd finger- Surya Mudra is for vitality
4th finger-Buddhi Mudra is for the ability to communicate
With each repetition, the thumb, which represents the ego; seals the effect of the mudra.
Find a place to walk along with the mudra and mantra. Perhaps you aren’t one to walk down your street chanting at the top of your lungs. It should be audible at least to yourself. Lots going on here, it’s not necessary to understand it all, try it for yourself and see what your own experience is. Get out and get walking! May the Long Time Sun Shine Upon You, Raji
